Financial Aid
Financial assistance is meant to supplement the efforts of the student and/or the student’s family and is available to eligible students. The financial aid programs provided by WTC make it feasible to eligible students who would normally be deprived of a technical education because of lack of funds to obtain the education they desire.
The following sources of educational financial assistance may be available to WTC students:
- Federal Pell Grant (WTC School code is 016258)
- Veterans’ Educational Benefits
- State Based Scholarships and Grants
- Community Based Scholarships- contact the WTC Financial Aid Office
NOTE: WTC does not provide student loans.
Professional Judgment Procedure:
WTC encourages students to discuss their individual circumstances if they experience a change in their financial situation, which may necessitate reevaluation of the student’s eligibility for aid. A professional judgement application to request an adjustment to a student’s dependency status or a student’s SAI (FAFSA’s calculated student aid index) may be obtained in the Financial Aid Office.
Student Academic Progress:
Federal regulations require that all higher education institutions establish and implement a policy to measure whether students receiving financial aid are making satisfactory academic progress (SAP) toward the completion of a program. Failure to meet SAP makes a student ineligible for all institutional, federal, and state financial aid. WTC’s SAP policy can be found in the Student Handbook.
Cost of Attendance:
Student budgets (cost of attendance- COA) are a calculation component for determining financial aid assistance and is not the actual program cost. WTC’s COA is based on estimated costs over a 10-month period and includes the average tuition and fees, books and supplies, room and board (living expenses), transportation, and personal expenses. WTC calculates COA for two categories of student populations – Independent and Dependent.
COA
Cost of attendance (COA), as dictated by Congress, is the estimated average cost to attend an institution for one academic year. It includes tuition and fees, books and supplies, room and board (living expenses), transportation, and personal expenses. The Financial Aid Office adjusts the COA yearly to reflect changes to those costs.
The COA is a calculation component for determining financial aid assistance. COA calculations are based on full-time attendance enrollment in clock hours at the in-state tuition rate of $2.92 per clock hour.
WTC provides a separate COA for dependent and independent students based on the assumption that dependent students typically have lower room and board.
