Motorcycle Training Program - Basic
The Basic Rider Course is designed for riders of all ages. This State-approved/ State required course consists of a minimum of five hours online instruction and at least ten hours of practical riding in a controlled, off-street environment.
During this course, you will learn:
- Different types of motorcycles, their controls, and how they operate.
- How to become a responsible rider.
- What gear to wear for protection and comfort.
- How alcohol and other drugs adversely affect your ability to ride safely.
The course concludes with a knowledge test and a riding skill evaluation.
Requirements:
- Hold a valid driver's license.
OR
- At least 16 years old and have had a learner’s permit for one year.
Enrollment Process:
- Complete all the required paperwork.
- Digital files are available online to complete and print here.
- Hard copies are available in Student Services to complete onsite.
- Turn in paperwork to WTC Cashier’s Office. Located in Student Services (Admissions Building across from the ATM)
- Provide your driver’s license.
- If under age 18, a parent / guardian must accompany the student to WTC for enrollment. Parent/ guardian signature and copy of driver’s license or ID is required.
- Pay fees - $225.00.
Rider Course Information will be provided at the time of payment along with a detailed instruction sheet including how to access the prepaid online eCourse, what to bring, and what to wear.
Required Items:
- A COPY OF YOUR COMPLETION CERTIFICATE – Basic Rider eCourse
- EYE PROTECTION - Eyeglasses, sunglasses, or goggles
- OVER THE ANKLE FOOTWEAR - No high heels, thick soles, or Converse
- LONG SLEEVE SHIRT/JACKET
- JEANS/STURDY LONG PANTS - No baggy or flared styles
- FULL FINGERED GLOVES - WTC has loaners available.
- DOT APPROVED HELMET - WTC has loaners available.
- RAIN GEAR - Optional but recommended.
Helpful Information:
- Enrollment is on a first come basis.
- When enrolling, you must indicate if you want motorcycle or scooter instruction.
- Motorcycle class is limited to 8 students. Selecting a scooter is limited to 1 student per class.
- Motorcycles, scooters, and helmets used in the program are supplied by the school. If you use your personal helmet, it must be DOT approved.
- Attendance is required at all class sessions.
- Upon successful completion, students must present the appropriate paperwork to the Department of Motor Vehicles to receive their motorcycle endorsement.
